Join us for our monthly MAC Music Café, an afternoon of live music performed by top-notch singer-songwriters, featuring local talent Marc Tappan, Rob Mcleod and Rich Adams, Jenny Cat and Stu Coogan. The concert will take place in the MAC Theater.

MARC TAPPAN: At 20 years old, little money in his pocket, no steady work and frequently homeless, Tappan began busking (performing for donations) on the streets in the Mission district of San Francisco. It was, here, that he met legendary blues guitarist Carlos “Guitarlos” Ayala, who became something of a mentor to Tappan. Their hours of performing together and Ayala’s storytelling had a major impact on this young man from New Jersey. Armed with his newfound experience and knowledge, Tappan traveled to Los Angeles and, finally, Phoenix with his music before deciding to come home to New Jersey. There, Tappan formed the Dirty Shine Band and in 2018, the band released its first EP with seven great blues with hints of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Stevie Ray Vaughn in the music.

JENNY CAT
Question: What do you get when you trap an old soul in the body of a millennial?
Answer: Jenny Cat.
Raised on a diet of Doo-Wop, 50’s rockabilly, country and western, psychedelic rock and bubble gum pop, forever obsessed with places like The Brill Building, and terms like “The Wall of Sound,” Jenny took music personally and learned how to play just about every instrument, studying the craft of songwriting at Berklee College of Music. She devoted much of her creative time to her band, Jenny And The Felines, went through a few line-up changes, and delivered two glorious albums of music and two hilarious music videos. Daunted by the overwhelming costs and mansplaining she encountered when looking to record her songs, she took things a step further and decided to learn the art of the recording/production/mixing/mastering process and has immense fun in the studio as it is her playground and the only place feels like home.

STU COOGAN is mostly a self-taught guitar player who loves good music of all genres… with a special warm place for the blues… hope the folks will enjoy renditions of some things swirlin’ in my skull…

Stu (Evening Host 7-11 pm on Brookdale Public Radio 90.5 FM) is now a 10-year veteran of the radio airwaves. After 22 years on the business side of the communications industry, he gives hope to all those who made the move to change careers in midstream. “Stu Coo” used buyout money from his prior employment to attend Brookdale Community College which provided a path to his true love, “Radioland”!

A lifelong music lover and amateur player, Stu brings an authentic, vintage, and fun flavor to evenings on “The Night”. You’ll be treated to a dose of Dead, Beatle break, and a bit of blues along with the usual terrific mix you’ve come to expect from Brookdale Public Radio. Sunday nights Stu hosts the Box of Blues from 10 pm to Midnight where you’ll hear blues from local to legendary. He will toss in a blues cd of the week and a spot of jazz, too.Be sure to share the scene on Brookdale Public Radio 90.5 FM-HD1…
